Happy Earth Week! This Wednesday marks the 50th anniversary of Earth Day. It’s a reminder of how much we have progressed making our world a healthier and cleaner place. This weekend I planted trees in my yard. I saw others in the community picking up trash on the sides of roads. There is so much we can do to create a positive impact. This week I am challenging you to create the word HOME. The Earth is everyone’s home, and we all share that connection. You can use anything outside or inside to spell out these four special letters. I used dandelion flowers that I found by my home. I originally got this idea from my friend, an Art Teacher from New York, Mrs. Chambers. She used found objects from her junk drawer. Her Instagram account is full of fun Art ideas; I’ve included it below. I also included a short video clip from a documentary on Andy Goldsworthy. Goldsworthy is an environmental artist who lives in Scotland and works with objects found in nature. He is famous for his rock balancing. I really enjoy seeing what you create so keep emailing photos to ckemper@basd.k12.wi.us Please check back as the week progresses, as I will continue to add more. Past lessons are available in the archives. Excited to see what you create!

Artfully,

Mr. Kemper
